The good news is that more and more people are turning their lives around in an effort to live a greener, more environmentally-friendly life. The bad news is that there is an increasing number of people who travel for leisure and work today, compared to the almost hermit-like lifestyle people used to live a hundred years ago. Traveling is affordable in this modern day and age. As we rake in the millage, we contribute to the ruination of planet earth. The cars we use, the bus we rent, the plane we fly in, the cabs and subways we hop into.
But here's an idea I would like to toss at you. How about making your holidays a little greener...like camping out in the jungle? There are countless trails and camping sites within the United States and we are truly blessed to have them to be so easily accessible all the time. All the camping experts will tell you that your eyes will open, and your heart will be awed whenever you close the door to modern civilization and turn your attention fully to what nature has to offer.
When you camp out, the trees (and oh, the fresh air!) are not the only draw. The forest animals like birds, squirrels, horses, rabbits, etc are there to accompany you, as well. You will feel so absolutely ALIVE in a jungle.
There is magic when you see no concrete and only the green in the trees and blue in the sky. These are things that you don't get to experience, see, smell and feel when you have a girly shopaholics' day out with your best friends! Unless you intend to bring a bike or an ATV with you, you pretty much rely heavily on your legs (and boots) as you 'travel' and explore the jungle. No carbon footprint there.
This is not to say that we are against traveling or using a vehicle. You HAVE TO use a charter bus or some other form of ground transportation to get to the campsite but it is minimized.
And if you are going camping in a group, we suggest renting a charter bus instead of each of you driving there on your own. That is serious wastage of money, time and fuel. To make it even more meaningful, get your hands on a Green Bus. Green buses are environmentally-friendly charter buses, using less fuel compared to the conventional hybrid car or bus.
